Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the International School of Belgrade High School!

As the only fully authorised International Baccalaureate World School in Belgrade, with a rich history spanning over 75 years, we are proud to offer a strong, holistic educational programme for our diverse learners. Our Secondary School serves middle and high school students aged 11 to 18, beginning with the Middle Years Programme and culminating in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and/or High School Diploma.

What is the DP Programme?

Reflecting the school's commitment to "excellence," the IB Diploma Programme is a challenging curriculum designed to prepare students for university. Over the two-year programme, students hone critical Approaches to Learning skills—such as Thinking, Self-management, Communication, Social, and Research—that they continue to develop from the MYP. These competencies equip our students with the academic foundation necessary for success at any university around the globe.

Furthermore, ISB students aim to exemplify the qualities of the IB Learner Profile, becoming inquirers, risk-takers, principled, balanced, and reflective individuals. The DP programme places a strong emphasis on nurturing students as compassionate global citizens, providing ample opportunities to engage in community service at local, regional, and global levels. We encourage our graduates to leverage their ISB education to make meaningful contributions to the communities they join as alumni.

Students who do not pursue a full IB Diploma Programme will enrol in IB courses, typically at standard level, and earn credits for graduation before obtaining an American high school diploma.

Supporting our Learners

Our student support team, which includes homeroom teachers, welfare coordinators, student support and EAL teams, social-emotional and university guidance counsellors, and a school psychologist, work alongside our staff and students to provide support throughout the learning process.

Beyond the Classroom

ISB offers a wide range of co-curricular activities after school. As members of the Central and Eastern European Schools Association (CEESA) and the International Schools Theatre Association, and through partnerships with other schools and organisations, our students have the opportunity to participate in international events and competitions throughout the year. Please visit our website for more information about these opportunities.

If you would like more information about our programmes, please contact our DP Coordinator, Fenia Rizopoulou.

Learning Stories
Grade 12 Supporting Global Minded Changemakers at ISB

For grade 12 students at the International School of Belgrade (ISB), graduation isn’t just a ceremony; it’s the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, supported by a team of committed educators. At the heart of this system lie our Diploma Coordinator and University Counselling Office, who offer personalised assistance with university applications, standardised testing, and career exploration.

Our team helps students identify their strengths, interests, and goals, navigating the often-daunting university selection and application process. With individualised attention and a wealth of resources, students are empowered to make informed decisions about their future academic and professional endeavours.

Beyond academics, ISB’s Diploma Coordinator and teachers play crucial roles. Coordinators offer emotional support and monitor progress, while teachers invest their expertise in each student, ensuring they not only excel academically but also develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed beyond high school. Central to our approach is the recognition that every student is unique, with distinct aspirations and talents. To this end, our counsellors work closely with individuals to tailor their post-secondary plans to align with their aptitudes and goals. Whether a student dreams of pursuing a career in the arts, sciences, humanities, or any other field, we strive to connect them with opportunities that will nurture their passions and unlock their full potential.

In addition to individualised support, ISB provides opportunities for students to explore their interests and gain real-world experience. Initiatives such as the ISB Career Insight Day and visits from university representatives expose students to a diverse range of career pathways and higher education options, helping them make informed decisions about their future. By connecting students with alumni and professionals in various fields, we inspire them to pursue their passions and seize opportunities for growth and exploration.

The journey toward life after high school begins long before graduation day. At ISB, we understand the importance of laying a strong foundation early on to ensure that students are prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Our homeroom programme is designed to help students develop self-awareness, explore their interests, and build a strong academic and extracurricular profile. Through experiential learning opportunities, community service projects, and guidance, we empower students to become well-rounded individuals ready to make meaningful contributions to society.

As graduation approaches, ISB celebrates the journey of its graduating class. It’s a moment to acknowledge the hard work, dedication, and perseverance that brought them to this pivotal moment. The school’s transition programme embodies its commitment to nurturing the success of its graduates, preparing them not only for the challenges of higher education but also for the opportunities and experiences that lie beyond. So, as ISB bids farewell to its graduating class, it does so with confidence, knowing its students are well-equipped to thrive in the next chapter of their lives.

Resources That Support our Learners

Student Support Services

  • Student Support Services
Our Student Support Services department includes a dedicated and well-resourced team of Learning Support Teachers, English as Additional Language Teachers, School Counsellors, as well as a Health Office.
  • EAL Programme
In high school, our EAL programme plays a crucial role in helping students enhance their English academic proficiency as they navigate rigorous educational content. The learning support team works with all community members and collaboratively creates individual Learning Profiles that take account of a student’s strengths and areas of focus. These profiles detail support provisions, goals, and accommodations, including a plan for self-advocacy and post-graduation pathways.
  • High School Counselling:
The counsellor assumes two responsibilities: social-emotional support and university counselling with the goal of supporting students in becoming self-reflective, academically successful, healthy, and responsible young adults. To ensure quality support, the counsellor regularly meets with teachers to keep track of students’ academic, social, and emotional progress. The counsellor also visits homerooms on a regular basis to deliver important information that is relevant to each grade level.
The high school counsellor is an invaluable component of ISB, a college-preparatory school with an emphasis on academic excellence through the IB Diploma Programme. The university counselling trajectory begins for our students in Grade 9 and follows a strategic continuum, gaining depth and scope through Grades 10 and 11. The programme culminates in the university application process during Grade 12. The process is facilitated by the counsellor, whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to, encouraging students to self-reflect, teaching students how to research, and finally, supporting students throughout the university application process.
