Jose began working as the Lower School Counselor/Learning Support teacher at ISB in 2013. He also serves as an active resource for families beyond the classroom. A native of Venezuela, Jose obtained his License in Psychology from the Universidad Rafael Urdaneta in Venezuela, followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychopathology from the Universitat de Barcelona in Spain. He continued with a Post-Graduate Certification in Systemic Family Therapy from King's College in London, and a Career and Work Counselor Diploma from George Brown College in Toronto, Canada - where he worked as a Career Counselor. Jose spent four years at the International School of Caracas in Venezuela as the Guidance Counselor for students in grades 3-8 during the time the school was incorporating elements of the PYP. He also taught an MYP Wellness class and is fully versed in the pedagogy of the IB.
Grade 3 Teacher
Monika joined ISB in 2006 as an English as a Second Language (EAL) Teacher and Advanced Literacy Teacher for the primary grades. Monika is currently teaching Grade 3 and has been since 2008. Monika is a dual citizen of Canada and Serbia. Prior to working at ISB, she was an Elementary School Teacher for the Toronto District School Board in Toronto, Canada. In addition to teaching Gr. 2 and Gr. 6, Monika was a Special Education Teacher for two years, teaching children with Developmental Disabilities which span a variety of areas including physical, intellectual, behavioral and medical needs. In 2002, Monika received her Honors Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at York University in Toronto. In 2004, she also received a Bachelor of Education degree in the primary/junior division at York University in Toronto.
Olga has been working at ISB since 2005 as an Upper School French Teacher. In 1999 she obtained a Bachelor's degree, and in 2012 a Master's degree from the University of Belgrade, both in French Language and Literature. In addition to the certificate issued in 2003 by the French Ministry of Education, Olga has a lifetime certification from the University of Belgrade to teach French language.
Dr. Lilly Balos, MSc GP FM has been employed at ISB as our school doctor since 2003. In addition to that role, Dr. Lilly has been in charge of the ISB Crisis Response Manual and coordinates the annual CPR and First Aid training for ISB faculty and staff. After graduating in the field of medicine from the University of Belgrade in 2002. Dr. Lilly obtained her Master of Science degree in Medicine in 2010 in the field of Diabetes in Children. She successfully completed the Specialist Program in General/Family Medicine in 2012. She acquired the General Medical/Family Medicine Practitioner's License from the Serbian Medical Chamber in 2009. Dr. Lilly continues to take university-sponsored medical programs and pursue other professional development opportunities that help her in providing health care services to our students and faculty.
Grade 3 Teacher
Deirdre began working at ISB as a PYP grade 3 teacher in 2016. She is an American citizen from the state of New Hampshire, and earned her BSc degree in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont. Before joining our school, Deirdre taught for four years at the Western International School Shanghai as a PYP teacher in grades 2 & 3. Prior to working at WISS, she worked for two years at the Canadian International School of Bangalore, India and before that at the Asia Pacific International School in Seoul, South Korea. She has worked as a Team Leader / Grade Level Coordinator and as a member of the Literacy Committee. Deirdre has many diverse personal interests such as yoga and rock climbing.
Serbian (Language B) Teacher
Biljana obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Serbian Language and Literature at the University of Belgrade. She has been a substitute teacher for both Serbian Language and Literature, and Serbian Language Acquisition since 2009, and in 2013 she became a part-time Upper School Serbian language acquisition teacher. Biljana has vast experience in teaching both LS and US students and is a certified copy editor for the Serbian language.
MYP Humanities Teacher
Since 2007 Arsen has taught in the following positions at ISB: Grade 2 Teacher, Serbian as a Foreign Language Teacher, Grade 3 Teacher, Grade 5 Teacher, and he is currently one of our MYP Humanities teachers. He is a dual citizen of Canada and Serbia. Prior to his experience at ISB, Arsen worked as a High School instructor at the School of International Languages in Mississauga, Ontario. He has a Master of Science degree in Technology Integration from Walden University, a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Windsor, and a Bachelor's degree in History from York University in Toronto, Canada. Arsen has served as a Self-Study Steering Committee member, a Curriculum Leadership Committee member and as a member of the Staff Association of the International School of Belgrade.
IB Psychology/ToK Teacher
Adam joined ISB in 2016 as the IB Psychology/ToK Teacher. He is an American citizen from the state of Virginia where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from George Mason University, as well as his M.Ed. in Secondary Education: Social Studies. Adam began his teaching in the Fairfax County school systems, and has taught both middle and high school levels, spending seven years teaching civics, economics, history and AP Psychology. He has been teaching IB Psychology and TOK, as well as IB Economics and IB
History, for the past two years at the Bilkent Laboratory International School in Ankara, Turkey. He enjoys participating in a variety of sports and has been involved with coaching basketball for the past six years.
MYP Science Teacher
Jennifer joined ISB as an MYP Science teacher in 2016. She came to our school after completing two years of teaching Middle School Science at Bilkent Laboratory International School in Ankara, Turkey, and four years of teaching MYP Science at the American International School of Bucharest prior to that. Jennifer is an American citizen who began her teaching career in schools in the state of Ohio in the USA - teaching Middle School Science - but has also worked as adjunct professor in the fields of Cellular Biology and Environmental Biology. Jennifer earned both her Education Certificate and MA in Environmental Studies from the Cleveland State University in Ohio.
Upper School Principal
Angelo joined ISB as the Upper School Principal in August 2014. Prior to ISB, Angelo served as High School Vice-Principal of United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA), Singapore. During his time at UWCSEA he was also an Upper School English teacher, deputy head of department and head of grade. Prior to UWCSEA, Angelo also taught in the Singapore national system and in his native Australia. He obtained his Bachelor's degree (specializing in English and history), and teaching diploma from the University of NSW, Australia, and his Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Walden University, USA. Angelo is presently pursuing his doctorate.
IB DP/MYP English Teacher/ College Counselor
Megan joined ISB as IB DP English Language and Literature teacher / MYP English teacher and University Counselor in 2016. She is an Australian citizen who spent many years at UWCSEA (United World College South East Asia) in Singapore as DP English teacher while also teaching IGCSE English and as Senior House Boarding Houseparent and Head of Kurt Hahn Boarding House. Among the many areas in which Megan was involved as teacher and houseparent was working with students on Personal Statements and preparation for university applications. Megan's BA in English and History, as well as her Diploma of Education, were earned at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. She is completing her Master of Education degree in Career Guidance and Counselling through the University of Southern Queensland, Australia.
Grade 1 Teacher
Since joining ISB back in 2003, Vicky has worked as an Early Years, Pre-K, Kindergarten and Grade 1 Teacher. Vicky came to ISB with extensive experience in working with the youngest student groups - she had been employed for ten years as a Nursery School Teacher at the International Nursery School Belgrade, as well as at several other daycare centers in Belgrade prior to that. She obtained her BA at the Teacher Education Academy of the University of Belgrade, Serbia.
MS Math Teacher
Michael joined ISB as the Middle School Math Teacher in 2010. He received a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids in his native U.S. state of Iowa, and a Master's degree in Differentiated Learning and Instruction from Graceland University in 2013. Prior to joining ISB, Michael taught Grade 8 math at Regis Middle School in Iowa for two years, where he also coached track, cross country, and sponsored student government. Michael is very active in our extracurricular program, coaching volleyball, basketball and soccer for both boys' and girls' teams, as well as Math Counts in the past.
Grade 4 Teacher
Julia joined ISB as a PYP grade 4 teacher in 2016. Julia is a US citizen and has earned her BA degree in Elementary Education from the Washington University and a MSc from Lesley University in Massachusetts. Most recently, she has worked at the Bilkent Laboratory International School in Ankara, Turkey, as a PYP grade 4 classroom teacher, alongside her husband Hakan, who has also joined ISB. Prior to Turkey, they worked at the German European School of Manila in the Philippines, and several schools in the state of Maine in the USA.
MYP Coordinator/MYP/DP Science/DP ESS Teacher
Patricia joined the ISB community in 2015 as MYP Coordinator and teacher of MYP Sciences and DP Environmental Systems and Societies. Prior to coming to ISB, Patti lived and worked in Dusseldorf, Germany, where she was MYP Community and Service Coordinator and taught MYP sciences and DP Biology. In addition to her time in Germany, Patti has lived in Turkey, where she was Science Department Head and taught general science and DP Biology; in Boston, where she taught general sciences at a charter high school; and in Ecuador, where she taught English as an Additional Language. Originally from New Jersey in the United States, Patti earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Boston University and her Master's in Environmental Education and Secondary Science Instruction at the University of New Hampshire. Patti is also a co-author of four textbooks for MYP biology and natural sciences.
LS PE Teacher
Marija has been working at ISB as the Lower School Physical Education teacher since 2005. She also taught Movement and Dance at our school for a number of years. She coaches the ISB Upper School girls' volleyball team. Marija obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physical Education from the University of Belgrade Department of Sport and Physical Education, and has completed specialized training for working with visually impaired children at the Department of Special Needs of the University of Belgrade, Serbia.
Since joining ISB in 2003, Mira has been one of our Kindergarten and Early Years teachers. Mira came to ISB with six years of experience teaching in early childhood education at public schools in Glencoe and Chicago, Illinois. Over the years at ISB, Mira has served on the ISB Strategic Planning Taskforce, the Staff Association of ISB as well as on numerous other committees. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from the De Paul University in Chicago, and her Master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the Northeastern University, also in Chicago, Illinois.
MYP Design Technology Teacher
Maja joined ISB as MYP Design Technology Teacher in 2016, but has worked at our school as a substitute teacher for two years prior to that. She is a Serbian citizen and obtained her BA and MA from the Belgrade University of Arts. Before joining ISB, Maja worked as an Art Teacher at a Belgrade elementary school.
MYP/DP Math Teacher
Since joining ISB in 2013, Andrew has been teaching DP/MYP Math, the subject he also taught at his previous post, Discovery College, a K-12 international school in Hong Kong, where he was also Head of Mathematics. Prior to that, Andrew spent three years in the same teaching capacity at the American International School of Bucharest, and another three years at the Anglo-American School of Moscow. Andrew has also worked in international schools in Thailand, Malaysia, and Finland. In addition, Andrew is a senior moderator for the IB Diploma Mathematics Standard Level course. He has previously coached CEESA football/soccer and Math Counts teams, and at ISB he also coached MS girls' soccer and MS Math Counts. A UK native, Andrew earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Lancaster University, along with his Qualified Teacher status, and in 2014 he completed a Master's degree in Education from Hong Kong Institute of Education.
German Teacher - Enrichment
Prior to becoming ISB's IB DP German Teacher in 2014, Jasmina worked in our Mother Tongue and Middle School Enrichment programs. Her previous work experience includes teaching German language at several private language schools in Belgrade. An Austrian national, Jasmina completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in German Philology, Psychology, Philosophy and Pedagogy at the Universitat Wien in Austria.
Upper School Counselor/Learning Support Specialist
Betsy joined ISB in 2014 as the Middle School Counselor and Upper School Learning Support Coordinator. Previously, she worked as the Special Education Coordinator for the Harrisonburg City Schools in Virginia, USA. Betsy held several other positions within these schools, including Principal of the Thomas Harrison Middle School. A US native, Betsy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education with focus on Special Education from Bloomburg State College in Pennsylvania. She earned her Master's degree in Education with focus on Student Counseling and Personnel Services from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and later returned to tertiary education for a degree in Public School Administration from the University of Virginia.
Grade 2 Teacher
Alan came to ISB as a Grade 2 Teacher in 2012. Alan has also taught Gr. 2 at the Ajial Bilingual School in Kuwait and Gr. 4 at the Saint Therese School in Australia. Alan is a native of Canada and is TEFL qualified. Alan has extensive knowledge and experience in business systems integration, software development and computer applications training. Alan has consulted and worked extensively in the field of Information Technology. Alan earned his BA at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and a Graduate degree in Primary Education at the University of Wollongong in Australia. Alan obtained his Certificate of Teacher Qualification from Ontario College of Teachers. Alan enjoys music and plays and performs in a blues band here in Belgrade.
Upper School Physics/Science Teacher
Brian started working at ISB as a long-term substitute for the MYP Design Technology position while also teaching a section of high school Chemistry in 2010. In 2011, he became the full time Upper School Physics/Science teacher. His previous experiences include teaching IB Biology and IB Chemistry at Crnjanski High School in Belgrade, "Wacky Science" at ISB, as well as Chemistry at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. A native of Canada, Brian has extensive experience as a scientific researcher at Simon Fraser University and the University of Alberta, Canada. He obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Simon Fraser University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Alberta. In 2010, Brian worked with the ISB Drama department and undertook steps to bring to the airwaves ISB's first radio station. He is very involved in extra-curricular activities at ISB, coaching HS Knowledge Bowl and Lacrosse, and sponsoring the Gardening Club and Robotics Club.
Finance and Business Director
Zhana has been the School Business Manager since 2006. She is a dual citizen of Serbia and the USA. Prior to her position at ISB, she worked as the Treasurer at Tetra Pak, the world's leading food processing and packaging solutions company, and before that she worked as a Software Engineer at Percussion Software, a web content management software company in the U.S. Zhana's professional training and qualifications were earned at Boston University, and are in software engineering; however, during her entire schooling in the USA she worked in the field of finance - working for profit and non-profit companies and organizations. She now oversees the business management of ISB - all the administrative and logistical aspects of running a school.
IB DP Biology/ DP Environmental Systems and Societies
Hakan joined ISB as a DP Biology, DP ESS, and MYP Science Teacher in 2016. He is a Swedish citizen with an international upbringing. Hakan earned his BSc degree in Natural Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and his MS in Environmental Studies with HS Biology Certification from Antioch University in New England. Most recently, he has worked at the Bilkent Laboratory International School in Ankara, Turkey, as an IB DP Biology, DP Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) and IGCSE Life Science, alongside his wife Julia, who has also joined ISB. Prior to Turkey, they worked at the German European School of Manila in the Philippines, and several schools in the state of Maine in the USA.
Athletic Director/Activities Coordinator
David joined ISB as the Athletics/Activities Director in 2016. He is a UK citizen who earned his BA (Honors) in Physical Education from the University of Chicester, England, and his Master's in International Education from Framingham State University in Massachusetts, USA. Before coming to work at ISB, David and his wife Kelli, who has also joined ISB, taught at Riffa Views International School in Manama, Bahrain, for four years, where David was Athletic Director and PE teacher. Prior to Bahrain, they spent three years at the Guatemala American School and before that at the Shanghai Community International School and the Gulf English School in Kuwait.
MYP Performing Arts/English Teacher
Kelli joined ISB in 2016 as the MYP Performing Arts/ English Teacher. She is an American citizen from the state of Georgia and earned her BA in Music Education from Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, her Master's in Education degree from Auburn University, and teaching certification in English and Music from the state of Georgia. Before coming to work at ISB, Kelli and her husband David, who has also joined ISB, taught at Riffa Views International School in Manama, Bahrain, for four years, where Kelli was the MS/HS Theater and Music teacher, as well as Yearbook Editor. Prior to Bahrain, they spent three years at the Guatemala American School and before that at the Shanghai Community International School and the Gulf English School in Kuwait.
Christine joined ISB as a Kindergarten Teacher in 2015. She has taught Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten at The International School of Beijing and Kindergarten at Nagoya International School. Christine is a native of Canada and was raised both in Canada and abroad. She has degrees in asian studies and linguistics and elementary education from the University of Victoria. She is currently completing her Masters Degree in early childhood education and instructional leadership from the University of Calgary. Her teaching experiences include PYP, project-based learning and Reggio-Emilia inspired programs. Christine has coached girl's soccer, taught elementary band and enjoys combining technology and art with children. Some of her favourite pastimes include traveling with her husband, cooking, reading and walking.
LS Music Teacher
Ljudmila's career in music began on radio and television where she worked as a music editor. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music from the University of Belgrade. Upon completing a specialized degree in Choir Conducting at the Rimsky Korsakov University of St. Petersburg, Russia, she left television and began working as an educator, teaching and organizing a 350 student choir at the Rudjer Boskovic High School in Belgrade. She also worked for a year at the Almaty International School in Kazakhstan as a music teacher assistant. In addition, her past work includes composing music for several children's theatre plays as well as composing the high school song for the celebration of 140 years' anniversary of the Valjevo High School. Since 2002, Ljudmila has been teaching music at ISB's Lower School and has been in charge of the annual Winter Show and Spring performances.
LS Spanish Teacher
Sonja joined ISB in 2011 as a part-time Spanish language instructor. She started in the Middle School teaching MYP Spanish to students in grades 6 through 10. Sonja also was a DP Spanish instructor for one year. Currently, she is a PYP Spanish teacher in the Lower School. Prior to joining ISB, Sonja worked within translation projects for a Serbian TV station. She also taught for three years at a private school in Belgrade as an instructor of Spanish and English to students of different age groups, from beginner to advanced level. Sonja graduated from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade, where she also obtained her Master's degree in Spanish Language and Literature with a thesis entitled "The concept of bilingualism and methods for its implementation in teaching with emphasis on bilingual teaching programs". She currently holds three diplomas for levels B1, B2, and C1 in Cervantes Institute in Belgrade, as well as a diploma for C2 level in the School of International Studies in Salamanca, Spain. Sonja has devoted her time outside of the classroom by supporting various community events.
MS/HS Serbian Mother Tongue Teacher
Milica has been employed at ISB since 2002, initially as a Teacher Assistant and Serbian B and EAL teacher, and after two years, as a middle school Serbian Mother Tongue Teacher. Prior to joining ISB, Milica worked as an English teacher at a private language school for several years, as well as a part-time teacher of Serbian Language at a public high and elementary school in Belgrade. Milica obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Serbian Language and Literature and World Literature at the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade. In addition to her teaching assignment, Milica is currently the Head of the ISB Upper School Language Department and has been involved in the ISB Strategic Planning Committee and completing the ISB Language Policy.
Serbian/Movement and Dance Teacher
Ivana has been working at ISB since 2004, initially as a Teacher Assistant, and in 2008 she became a teacher of Serbian as a Foreign Language and Movement & Dance at the Lower School. Ivana has an Associate degree from the Telecommunication Department of the University of Belgrade. Prior to her employment at ISB, Ivana worked as an assistant in several Belgrade-based business companies.
LS French Teacher
Dubravka joined ISB in 2011 as a part-time Lower School French Teacher. She received her BA in French Language and Literature from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade. Before joining ISB, she had been working as a Grade 2 teacher in the French School in Belgrade for five years. For ten years prior to that, Dubravka worked as a French teacher at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School in Belgrade. She is an active participant in correcting DELF/DALF ((Diplome d'Etude en Langue Francaise) exams and is a member of the conversation examination. While Serbian is her mother tongue, she has comprehension skills at C2 level in French and production skills at C2 level in French.
HS Math Teacher
Anna has been teaching High School Math at ISB since 2012. She has a Master's degree in the Art of Teaching from Michigan State University, a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Mathematics from Aquinas College, and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Anthropology from Western Michigan University. Anna is currently participating in the ECIS/CEESA Mathematics Specialists in International Schools cohort program. She is an American and earned a secondary teaching certificate in Political Science and Mathematics from the State of Michigan. Anna is trained in the DP and MYP, and has a strong understanding of the continuum into the IB DP. She has written and taught MYP interdisciplinary units for mathematics and humanities, one of which has been published and is currently being used by MYP trainers in Latin America as an exemplar of transdisciplinary unit planning. In addition, Anna has three years of classroom teaching experience in 5th and 6th grades. Her previous full-time international teaching assignments have been at Colegio Internacional de Caracas, the International School of Kenya, and Oleai Elementary School in Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Brian joined the ISB team in 2011 as the Lower School Principal. Before coming to ISB, Brian was the PreK-8 Principal at Colegio Internacional de Caracas in Venezuela. He has taught both Grade 4 and 5 as well as Middle School Humanities and English and has served as IB coordinator and Upper School Principal in previous posts, being an international educator for nearly 20 years. A native of the U.S. state of Michigan, Brian earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Western Michigan University and two Master's degrees, one from Aquinas College - a Master's degree in Education, and the second in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University. While away from school, Brian enjoys spending time with his family, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, cooking, golf, baseball, and American football. Brian and his family spend their time away from Belgrade in their home in northern Michigan.
MYP Drama/DP Theater Teacher
Tracy joined ISB as MYP Drama/DP Theater teacher in 2016. She is a UK citizen who earned her BA (Honors) degree in Drama and Theater Studies from the University of Leeds and her MA in Theater Arts Administration & Cultural Policy at the University of London. As her husband Dominic, who has also joined ISB, she has previously taught at the Pan American School of Bahia in Brazil, in the position of the IB DP Theater and English Teacher. Prior to that, they were both teachers at the Istanbul International Community School for three years, where Tracy taught MYP Drama and DP Theater. Tracy has been an IBO Diploma Theater Examiner since 2011, with many other years of teaching drama and theater in schools in the UK and India.
MS EAL Teacher
Since joining ISB in 2005, Nevena has taught Serbian Language at the Lower School and Upper School levels, and most recently has become one of our Middle School EAL Teachers. Her extensive teaching experience includes teaching English as a second language at public Belgrade elementary and high schools, as well as at private language schools. Nevena obtained her Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade.
Rachel joined ISB in 2015. She hails from Melbourne, Australia and has spent the past 17 years teaching internationally. Rachel holds a Bachelor degree in Primary Education and she earned her Master's degree in Educational Leadership in 2012. She has previously worked as a Deputy principal and is now starting on her 10th year in the role of PYP Coordinator. During her rich and exciting teaching career, Rachel has taught students from a range of age and grade levels spanning over 6 countries! Rachel's husband Cosmin is from Romania and both of her daughters, Mia and Emma, were born in China. In addition to being passionate about traveling and learning about other countries and cultures, Rachel thrives on the challenge of continuing to improve how we teach and the way in which our students learn.
IT Specialist / IS Manager
Nenad has been working at the International School of Belgrade in a variety of IT infrastructure roles and services since 2007. As of 2014 he started the development of ISB's School Information System which represents the biggest project in his ISB career. He earned a Bachelor's degree in PE from the University of Belgrade. Prior to accepting the IT position at ISB, Nenad also worked as an IT Specialist at one of the USAID-dependent NGO's called IRD.
MS/HS EAL/Language B Teacher
Since joining ISB in 2002, Olja has worked as a Serbian Teacher and an EAL/English as Language B instructor. She completed a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature, a Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, and a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics, from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade. Prior to working at ISB, Olja worked as an English teacher in public elementary schools in Belgrade and other parts of Serbia.
Library Media Specialist
Brooke joined ISB in 2015 as the Librarian for both the lower and upper schools. She has spent the past 10 years of a 16 year teaching career teaching internationally in China, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. A native of Washington State in the USA, Brooke started her career as a fifth grade teacher. She has a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Washington State University, a Master's degree from Lesley University in Massachusetts and a Library Science endorsement from Central Washington University. Brooke enjoys reading, sewing, being outdoors, baking and buying books.
Ana joined ISB in 2013 as one of our Kindergarten teachers. A dual citizen of Canada and Serbia, Ana holds an Early Childhood Care and Education Diploma from MTI College in Vancouver, Canada, and has six years of experience within early childhood classrooms at the International Nursery School Belgrade, Core Education and Fine Arts Junior Kindergarten in Vancouver and Village Daycare Society in Burnaby, Canada.
Martin has worked as an Upper School French Teacher at ISB since 2004. He is a French native and has taught French as a foreign language from beginner to advanced level to students in grades 6-10. In addition, he has been a DP French instructor, a Mother Tongue French tutor for secondary students and a homeroom teacher for students in Grade 6. Since 2008, Martin has sponsored school excursions to France and Belgium. He orchestrated the DELF (Diplome d'Etude en Langue Francaise) exams starting in 2007. In 2006, he served as an assistant High School Boys Basketball coach. He participated in the TEDxYouth@ISB conference in the 2011-2012 school year. Martin has a BA in Sociology and an MA in linguistics, both from Rouen University in France.
Grade 2 Teacher
Barbara joined ISB in 2015 as a second grade teacher. Bobbi was born and raised in New York and then went to College in Portland Oregon where she received a degree in early childhood and elementary education. She has taught PreK in Denver Colorado for three years and then moved on to teach first grade for four years. Her most recent position has been PYP coordinator and PreK teacher in Fukuoka Japan where she lived for four years. She has coached a girl's soccer team and loves to be active. Playing sports outside and reading with her daughter Aspen are some of her favorite pastimes.
Grade 4 Teacher
Kevin joined ISB in 2015 as a 4th grade teacher. In the previous four years he taught in 2nd grade at Fukuoka International School as part of his first international teaching experience. He also was the high school basketball coach there for two years. Before moving to Japan, Kevin taught in 4th grade in Denver Colorado, where he began his teaching career. He has a master's degree in education from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Michigan State University. He grew up outside of Chicago Illinois in the United States. Kevin enjoys playing sports, being active and spending time with his daughter Aspen.
Branislav has been the IT Director at the International School of Belgrade since 2005. Prior to joining ISB in his current full time position, he was working with ISB on an on-call basis, and has been providing IT support to our school since 1996. He earned a Bachelor's degree as well as his Master's degree in Information Technology Management, both from the Union University in Belgrade. Prior to accepting the IT Director position at ISB, Branislav also worked as an IT Manager for 5 years at the USAID-dependent NGO called International Relief & Development.
LS Serbian Mother Tongue Teacher
Milena joined ISB in 2009 as one of our part-time Serbian Mother Tongue teachers, initially at the Upper School, and subsequently at the Lower School. Milena earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Serbian Language General Linguistics from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade. In addition to her work on developing a strong Serbian MT program that incorporates general literacy, literature and understanding of Serbian culture, Milena is a member of the Tech Integration Team and has devoted her time outside of the classroom by serving as a new teacher mentor and supporting various community events.
MS English/Humanities Teacher
Sonja has worked at ISB since 2010 in a variety of instructional capacities: Lower School Movement and Dance teacher for Pre-K and Kindergarten, Serbian Foreign Language instructor for Grades 1- 5, then EAL teacher for grades 6-8 and most recently, as MYP English Language and Literature/Individuals and Societies teacher. Sonja is a dual citizen of Canada and Serbia and received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Windsor and her Bachelor's degree in Honors Political Science with a Psychology Minor from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada. Her work experience prior to ISB includes teaching as a primary school instructor and student teacher in several public and private schools in Windsor and Kitchener, Canada.
LS EAL Teacher
Visnja has been teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) at the ISB Lower School since 2005. She holds a Master's degree in Education in Applied Linguistics from the Open University Oxford UK, and a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade. Prior to coming to Belgrade, she taught EAL at the American International School of Bucharest for nine years. In addition to teaching students, Visnja provided professional development to teachers both in Bucharest and in Belgrade in Teaching English to Students in Mainstream Classrooms, a program designed to help teachers identify the language-related needs of EAL students and to develop teaching practices that address those needs. Visnja has also provided professional development to teachers at the Lower School in First Steps (Writing), a resource for teachers to map their students' progress and use in designing learning activities that assist students with further development in writing.
US EAL Teacher/ Enrichment Journalism/ Elective Yearbook
Zorica was appointed to the part-time position of Upper School English as an Additional Language In-class Support Teacher in 2014. Prior to that, Zorica was with ISB for two years in the capacity of Individual Assistant for a special needs student. Zorica has a Bachelor's degree in Serbo-Croatian Language and Literature, and Teacher Certification from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade. She also teaches a Middle School Enrichment Course.
Grade 1 Teacher
Adriana joined ISB in 2014 as a Grade 1 teacher. Adriana was born in the USA and moved to Poland at the age of four. She is a USA-Poland dual national, and graduated high school from the American School of Warsaw. Adriana earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Elementary Education at the University of Michigan, and then returned to Warsaw to work first at the International American School of Warsaw as a Grade 2 teacher, followed by her most recent position at the Canadian School of Warsaw in a PYP Kindergarten classroom.
Rob has been the Director of the International School of Belgrade since July 2012. He earned his Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, USA. Rob holds a Masters' degree in Education from the University of Vermont as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Middlebury College in Vermont, USA. Prior to arriving at ISB Rob spent five years as the Headmaster of Nagoya International School in Japan, and before that he was the Lower School Principal at Zurich International School, where he also spent five years. Rob has also held senior administrative positions at the American Community School of Amman, Jordan; the International School of Islamabad, Pakistan; and the International School of Cartagena, Spain.
Upper School Spanish Teacher
Milica has been employed at ISB since 2006, initially as the Lower School Receptionist, and since 2007 as a Spanish language instructor on the Lower School and Upper School levels. Milica is a dual citizen of Canada and Serbia, and also donates her time and energy outside the regular day of instruction. She was the after school coordinator for the 2007-2008 school year; she assumed summer camp coordinator responsibilities during two successive summers: 2008 and 2009; she coached girls' basketball in the Lower School and has been a member of the Curriculum and Leadership Council. In addition, she volunteered as a member of the Lower School Sports Day committee and was a Book Sale volunteer. Currently, apart from teaching MYP Spanish to students in grades 6 through 10, Milica is the MS girls' basketball coach and a representative on the staff association committee. Milica earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Spanish Language and Literature from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade.
MYP Individuals and Societies Teacher
Dominic joined our school as MYP Individuals & Societies teacher in 2016. Dominic is a citizen of India, with roots from Malaysia. He originally studied and worked in the fields of commerce, tourism, and hotel management and then earned his PGCE (Post-Graduate Degree in Education) from the University of Sunderland, UK in 2011. As his wife Tracy, who has also joined ISB, Dominic has most recently been teaching at the Pan American School of Bahia in Brazil in the position of Middle School History/Social Studies Teacher. Prior to working in Brazil, Dominic was an MYP Humanities & MYP PE Teacher at the Istanbul International Community School for three years. He has coached multiple athletics and activities teams and clubs in both Brazil and Turkey, and was an MS StuCo advisor in Bahia.
Upper School PE Teacher
Igor has been with ISB since 1993, teaching Physical Education on all levels, and most recently in the Upper School. In addition to being a teacher, he fulfilled the role of Athletic Director for several years in the past and he has also been coaching CEESA sports, namely MS Boys Basketball, MS Girls Volleyball, HS Girls Volleyball and HS Girls Soccer. Igor obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physical Education from the University of Belgrade Department of Sport and Physical Education. Before joining ISB, he worked briefly as a swimming instructor, and as a ski instructor for four years.
LS Learning Support Specialist
Elena has worked at ISB since 2006, initially as a Gr. 4 and 5 teacher and subsequently as the Lower School Learning Support Specialist. Prior to her experience at ISB, she worked at QSI International School of Skopje in her home country of Macedonia for 6 years, educating students in Grades K-5. Elena earned her Master of Education degree in International Education from Framingham State College, Massachusetts and her Bachelor's degree in the Arts from the University of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Macedonia. She holds a Special Education Certification from the State of Missouri. In addition, Elena has CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), and TESOL (Teacher of English to Students of Other Languages) certifications. She has organized children's drama festivals on national levels. As an exchange student, Elena received Bill Clinton's Presidential Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement.
DP Visual Arts Teacher
Natasa has been working at ISB as the DP Visual Arts Teacher since 2004. In addition to her teaching assignment, she is also in charge or organizing the annual DP Art Exhibition. Natasa earned her Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Painting, both from the Fine Arts Department Cetinje of the University of Montenegro. Prior to joining ISB, she had worked as an Assistant Professor at the Fine Arts Department Cetinje for four years, and for an additional three years, as an Art Teacher at a Belgrade private art school for school-aged children. Natasa has created several independent exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions in Serbia and Montenegro.
LS Art Teacher
Svetlana has been the Lower School Art Teacher at ISB since 2006, and is in charge of the Lower School Annual Art Show. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Painting from the Fine Arts Department of the University of Arts Belgrade. She also specialized in Painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts in Greece. Svetlana's work experience prior to ISB includes teaching art to children of all age groups and creating art programs for different institutions such as the Children's Cultural Center Belgrade, the Cultural Center Belgrade, private daycare institutions and local schools. Svetlana has had a number of independent exhibitions of her own artwork, and has been a participant in numerous group exhibitions in Serbia and abroad.
IB DP Coordinator/DP History Teacher
Branka's career at ISB began when she joined in 1999. Initially, she was employed as a French teacher, and subsequently she has worked as a Humanities teacher and in a variety of leadership roles: MYP Coordinator, DP Coordinator and Head of Humanities Department, as well as Pamoja Education IB Site-Based Coordinator, MYP Personal Project Coordinator and DP Extended Essay Coordinator. In addition, she has been a team leader of IB evaluation visits to international schools around the world on numerous occasions. She is an IB MYP workshop leader for Heads of Schools and Coordinators, as well as Individuals & Societies teachers. Branka obtained her Bachelor's degree from the University of Belgrade Law School (International relations).
Devon joined ISB as the High School/College Counselor in 2011. Devon has received training across a wide spectrum of areas from in-house PYP/MYP/DP training to training for the Virtues Project, a program related to character education. She received her MA in School Counseling from the University of Phoenix and is a certified school counselor in her native state of Colorado. Prior to her employment at ISB, she worked for four years as the upper elementary school counselor (Gr. 3-5) at the International School of Beijing, where she was also the head of the K-12 counseling department; and she also worked as a K-12 Counselor at the International School of Helsinki for two years. Devon has an additional ten years of counseling experience in the United States.
LS EAL Teacher
Before joining ISB in 2004 as the Lower School EAL teacher, Divna taught English as Additional/Second Language to children, teenagers, university students and adults. Her work experience includes the position of Academic Director at Kester Grant College in Vancouver, Canada, as well as teacher trainer at the ESL International Teacher Training Center (TESL) in Vancouver. In addition, Divna has been a licensed Cambridge ESOL examiner since 2005. Apart from teaching EAL, she also coordinates the after-school Mother Tongue Program at ISB. Divna obtained her BA in English Language and Literature from the Philology Department of the University of Belgrade, and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Certificate in Vancouver, Canada. Divna is a dual citizen of Canada and Serbia.
Grade 5 Teacher
Greg joined ISB in 2014 as one of our Grade 5 teachers. In addition to USA and Canadian citizenships, Greg has a UK passport. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Economics from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, and his Bachelor of Education degree in the Primary/Junior division from the University of Toronto, Canada. He began his international teaching career as a PYP Grade 1 Teacher at the International School of Almhult in Sweden, and has worked as an elementary classroom teacher at Suzhou Singapore International School in China for three years.
MYP Art Teacher
Maja joined ISB as the Middle School Art teacher in 2014 and is also teaching one section of grades 9 & 10 Enrichment in Graphic Arts. Prior to joining ISB, she worked as the Visual Arts teacher at the bilingual (French/Serbian) Vladislav Ribnikar school in Belgrade. Maja had worked at this school full-time since 1993, and also worked part-time as Visual Arts teacher at the Matematicka Gimnazija (High School of Mathematics) in Belgrade for nine years. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Graphic Design from the Belgrade University of Art. Maja has been honored three different years by the Museum of Applied Arts in Belgrade with the Award for the best Art Teacher at the Republic (national) level. Her own print art has been on display in exhibitions in Serbia, France, Japan, Spain and Hungary.
Duda has been employed at ISB since 2004, initially in the capacity of a Lower School Teacher Assistant in Grade 1 and Pre-K, and as of 2006, as a Pre-K Teacher. Prior to joining ISB, she worked as an Early Childhood Teacher at the International Nursery School of Belgrade. Duda holds an Associate degree from the Pre-School Teachers Training College of the University of Belgrade.
Grade 5 Teacher
Dianna has been teaching at ISB since 2005, and has taught Grades 2 and 3 and is currently one of our Grade 5 teachers. A native of Australia, she was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. Dianna graduated from the University of South Australia where she received a Bachelor of Education in Primary Teaching and received her teacher certification from the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. Most of her 12-year teaching experience prior to ISB was in Australia's public schools in the regular classroom as well as in the specialty areas of Art, PE, and Languages other than English. She has also taught in schools with Bilingual, English as a Second Language, and Talented and Gifted programs.
Goran has been working at ISB since 1992, and as ISB's Facilities/Maintenance/Security Manager he is in charge of our maintenance, custodial and transportation services as well as campus security. He also helps organize all school events, during and outside his regular work hours. Goran has an Associate degree in History from the University of Belgrade.
MYP/DP English Teacher
Agatha joined ISB in 2014 to teach MYP/DP English. She is a dual national of Poland and Canada. Agatha earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature - concurrent with the Education program - at Queen's University in Canada, and completed her Bachelor of Education degree in English and Drama at Queen's University, as well. Agatha began her full time teaching career as an MYP English and EAL Teacher at the International School of Almhult in Sweden, and then spent three years teaching IB DP Language & Literature as well as MYP English at Suzhou Singapore International School in China.
DP Serbian Language and Literature Teacher
Tatjana has been working at ISB since 2010 as a DP Serbian Tutor, and most recently, as our DP Serbian Language and Literature Teacher. She is a Serbian citizen who obtained a BA from the University of Belgrade. Tatjana has spent over twenty years in education, teaching literature in various Belgrade high schools, as well as high schools in Hong Kong and Athens, Greece.
